Great first day. 1 hr detour due to accident on the 10. Working out kinks of travel and towing a trailer. No tablets or ipads, 3 movies together. Fierce game of license plate bingo with Mike in the lead. Scarlett sings twinkle-twinkle and is generally cheerful and sweet.
Saw 3 temples Phoenix, Mesa and Gilbert. Great visitors center at Mesa. Beautiful, historic grounds and neighborhood. Also saw the grounds for the Tucson Temple. Mike and I loved the neighborhood for the Tucson temple. Wide spread custom homes featuring ornate Spanish architecture and mid century. No grass, but charming pathways with cactus and drought tolerant plants. Rough roads winding through hills and turns. Pure desert charm.
We stayed at Catalina Stake Park. Gorgeous area NE of Tucson near the mountains. Mike killed a scorpion in the bathroom. Great camp area 5 stars from me. Electricity, water, pull through, clean bathrooms and free showers. Busy season is January thru April, so it was pretty empty.
Favorites of the day were cereal for dinner and popsicles as we drove into town. I chose a lime popsicle with only Spanish labeling. It was divine. Luke chose a drumstick and the other three chose a SpongeBob popsicle that dyed their mouths various colors.
After a good night's rest we attended church just down the road at the North Stake Center in Tucson. Luke loves all the new lizard types he sees everywhere. Two different types were spotted running up and down the brick walls of the church as we walked in.
