That's when I came up with this idea.
This was a simple easy project that any soccer mom/dad/grandparent could do.
1) Determine what you want from the banner on each pennant and cut it out. This banner was made out of felt. It was very easy to cut and create a nice finished edge.
2) Measure the size of the name and icon you wish to use for each pennant. (I made larger pennants for the coaches so I could use up some of the other artwork on the banner for them)
3) Add a couple inches to allow for a margin around the art work.
4) Calculate the dimensions of your pennant and make a template. The top with of each triangle should be equal to the length of the triangle to achieve that desired pennant shape. Our art was about 6" in diameter, so each of the boys pennant was 8" wide at the top and 8" long. I made my template or pattern out of cereal box cardboard.
5) Choose and purchase background felt for the project. Our jerseys were gray, to gray it was.
6) Use your template to cut out each pennant.
7) Stitch or glue your art to each pennant.
8) The pennants looked a little bare, so I added a strip of black felt at the top of each one. It gave them a little extra weight and definition.
For the last game just before the party, I clipped them up on a clothes-line hung with tape to our banner frame. That way we technically still had a banner for the game and it was a nice back drop for handing out trophies afterwards.
The pennants were a big hit with the boys and their families. It was totally worth the $7 in felt and the time I spent cutting and sewing. I hope I am not team mom again, but if I am, I will forsure do it again.
