We hoped to find Aaron's glasses this morning before we left Sandusky. He did find the strap in the grass which means he probably dropped them in the grass yesterday morning on his way back from showering. Why he wasn't wearing them we don't know. Our insurance covers if they break, but not if they are lost. Such a bummer.
This was taken at 8:30 am. The kids were so tired from Cedar Point!
On the way to the temple we stopped by a house Mike lived in as a boy. 554 Pollyanna in Delaware, OH. Most the rest of the way Mike told stories about when he lived there, the adventures they had, and how the town was back then. The boys loved hearing all about it.
So this next shot was the reason for the whole trip. We were able to do a temple session with 9 of the siblings, their spouses, Mike's parents and a few grandkids. It was such a happy time. Everyone had huge smiles on their faces. Mike's parents wandered around the celestial room and hugged everyone at least once.
Next we had lunch with Doug and Emily at Sam's Club and grabbed some groceries. I was surprised they were more than what I spend in CA. I guess produce, meat, cheese and protein shakes are in greater supply at our stores in CA. Even the chips I bought were more. It was odd to me nevertheless.
After lunch we drove southeast to Burr Oaks State park to reunion with all of Mike's family. The drive wound us through Wayne National Forrest. These pictures are unedited and through the car windows. To say it was a beautiful drive would not be enough.
We passed through many small towns that looked just like this. Various houses from various decades in various conditions. American flags all over. Most towns with just stop signs and maybe a light or two.
The next few days will be play, play, play. The play will only pause for food and maybe rest.
I think of the work, planning and resources that have gone into this trip. It all could have gone to something else, something the world or common sense would have deemed more vauable. However we spent it all on family. Time to learn from each other, bond together, enjoy this great country together. My body is covered in bug bites, my hair is a mess, I haven't slept well, my digestive track is a wreck, I fear I have gained 10 lbs from eating out and eating convenient junk, yet I am so grateful for all we have seen and experienced together. I am grateful my in-laws have made the same priority. Of 48 grandchildren I think I'll all be together.
