Yesterday Mike took Luke and the dogs to the lake for some exercise. Luke loves throwing tennis balls in and watching the dogs swim out and retrieve them. The dogs love it too and everyone is happy.
On the outing Luke found a baby frog. It was about the size of a quarter and very cool looking. They brought the frog home and made it a mini aquarium out of gladware. As I'm sure you can imagine this was a less than adequate home for the frog and the random manhandling made it worse. I am so glad I don't have to worry about coming back as a small animal in the next life, only to be victim to small children. I'm a big believer in larger pets that can run away from 4 year old boys.
After church the first thing Luke did was run to see the frog, after dinner--the frog, after a dessert social with visiting friends--the frog, after the bath--the frog. Mike went out to check on the frog this morning before Luke woke up and unfortunately the frog did not make it through the night. Out of respect for the poor frog, Mike disposed of it before it could be further abused.
Of coarse when Luke woke up the first thing on his mind was the frog. He went out and saw that it was gone. Mike explained to him that the frog had died during the night and that the frog was now in heaven and much happier. (NO DOUBT!) Luke said, "When is he coming back?"
"He's not coming back Luke."
"Sister Grayson said that everything will come back and be resurrected." (Luke would tell you that Sister Grayson could walk on water if she wanted. She is the greatest Sunbeam teacher ever.)
"Well for now the frog will live in Heaven with Heavenly Father until that time comes." Luke wasn't happy with that answer, but he accepted it.
A few minutes later Mike walked past the back door and saw Luke looking up at the sky, pointing and waving his arm, shaking his fist. He was yelling up to heaven over and over, "Give me my frog back!! I want my frog back!"

That is so sweet and so awesome.
Didn't his teacher tell him to talk to Heavenly Father through prayer? I'm cracking up at the thought of him shaking his fist and shouting at the sky.
aawww....that's so cute/sad! Do you remember when we lost Velvet? I missed her so much....but, I'll admit - Luke's way more advanced in the gospel than I was at that age....I had no idea that pets could be with Heavenly Father when I was little...
