Buried Treasure

This weekend we went on a "treasure" hunt. They told us when we bought our house 3 years ago that the septic tank need to be pumped every 2 -3 years. Yes, we have a septic tank, and it's apparently very common around here. The newer houses in developments are on city sewer pipes, but most of the new custom homes and the older neighborhoods are septic.

It turns out that you can save a couple hundred bucks off the pumping bill if you find the lids to your tanks and dig down to them. (They charge $80 an hour to dig holes!-what is that?) Mike found an old map that was really hard to understand (probably made by drunken pirates) and began his search. He used a rod to push down to the tank, and then after digging several holes, our "treasure" was found. Nice work Mike! I will feel much better after the tank is pumped and the holes are filled and I can pretend again that everything magically disappears when I flush.

And yes, that's a Los Hermanos t-shirt Mike's wearing from our college days in Provo. Mike said back then, the coupon t-shirt price wasn't worth the free specialty drinks, but I'm thinking the t-shirt has earned it's worth seeing as it's still being worn 12+ years later! I could really go for a specialty drink from Los Hermanos right now. But I wouldn't move back to Provo for one!
