Many of you far away friends have asked for some pictures of the new house. As I thought about things I love about my house, you will see that most of what I love about our house is the yard.
Perhaps the weirdest thing about our new house is the front door is on the back of the house. Meaning when you look as our house from the street, you see the back of the house. (zero curb appeal for me) The reason for this is, our house was built long before the houses around it and as they developed, they put our street in on the back of the property. Why did they not move the front door to the front? Not sure, it's first on my projects list.
I do however like my front door (that's on the back of my house). Totally fits the house, high quality, makes rainbows on my entry floor that the boys think are very cool, and I think it's pretty.
For Christmas, my sister made me this amazing painting. I love it and it's hanging in my new front room over my favorite bench and quilt. The picture doesn't do it justice. The glaring white walls don't help. And that tile floor is actually better in person too.

This is the coolest cactus bush ever. The long stalks have spines all up and down them in perfect rows. At the end of each stalk are cool palm tree looking leaves with red flowers shooting out the middle. I've never seen one before. Any one know what it's called? I love it.

On the path to my front door there are several lavender bushes that smell wonderful.

And right outside my front door and my bedroom window is honeysuckle. Everytime I open the door or window I take a deap breath of it and smile. It's delicious.

This is the sunrise I get to see out my bedroom window each morning. Roof tops and the sun coming up over the hills.

I've never eaten one before and I look forward to them getting fully ripe. These yummy fruits are comquats. In addition to lemons, avocados and oranges, we have these yummy fruits too. You can kind of see my neighbor's pool. I love that too, but it's not mine. ( =

And I'll end on my current favorite. As I call the boys in for dinner each night, I look out over the ravine and there is a gorgeous hill all covered in purple flowers. You can see the Eucalyptus tree at the top of the picture. It's leaves are heaven for my sinuses.
Yeah, not too many favorite things about the house. Expect before and afters to come. ( =

Should you leave the front door in back for rainbow's sake? Your land is like a heavenly oasis with the purple flowers and lemons and avocados. Oh how I love avocados.
Those purple flowers out in that feild are heavenly! Hope you all are doing well!!
Are you kidding me? It makes me wonder (again) why I live it Utah!?
wow jessica! beautiful. i need to see more! i'm so jealous your yard is sooo cool
Oh Jess, I love it. I so wish I could convince my husband to move out west.
The place looks great! I love the plants.
The cactu-like thing is a Euphorbia milii, or Crown of Thorns plant. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euphorbia_milii
The sap will irritate the skin if you leave it in contact very long. Some of other Euphorbias will strip paint off a car....so just be careful of the sap (and thorns) when you prune it :)
It was fun to stumble across your blog,
