My parents live on a corner and right behind their house is an elementary school. The school starts at 7:50 every morning and for the 15 minutes before school starts it's grid lock traffic. You can't even get out of the driveway because of all the cars. Annoying? Yes--if you have to get out of the driveway. Captive audience? Yes. It's perfect for donut selling. There's even a really good donut shop right down the hill.
Business was slow at first. People were in a hurry to get their kids to school. But it picked up as people were leaving. Some even promised their kids they'd go back and buy them a donut and save it for them for after school. He sold 10 donuts, which was perfect. He got to eat one and gave one to Grandpa for helping.
It was a great experience for him. We counted the money. He learned about $5 bills vs. $1. He worked on manners and friendliness. We also talked about using a napkin to pick up the donuts and having clean hands. We also learned about patience and waiting for the sale. One lady was on a walk and asked if he would wait so she could go home and grab some cash. She gave him a $3 tip. (Such nice neighbors)
He's forgotten the plane now. I told him if he keeps doing this and saving his money he could buy a Disneyland pass. Who can resist a kindergartner with a box of donuts? He's just shy enough to melt all the mommies, and he's got LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION going for him.
Luke, you just sold a dozen donuts, where are you going? (Disneyland?)
