Because I Can

This post is for all my California Girl friends in Seattle. Somehow I hope that you can get your fix vicariously through me. Kami, Carrie, this one's especially for you.

Yesterday, I'm not sure why, I just decided around 11am that when Luke got out from early release Wednesday that we needed to go to the beach. Why not? Gas in my tank, food for sandwiches and snacks, nothing else scheduled, carpool lane home, no reason not to.

The beach is the ultimate healer.

Failed a test? Go to the beach.

Boyfriend dumped you? Go to the beach.

Allergy problems? Go to the beach.

Big decision to make? Go to the beach.

House mates making you crazy? Go to the beach.

In a funk and not sure why? Go to the beach.

Nothing better to do? Go to the beach.

My life isn't falling apart, but I just needed to go. Maybe because our house hasn't sold yet, maybe because it seems like summer should be ending, who knows. But really, do you need a reason to go to the beach?

When I left I wasn't sure even which beach I was going to. But my auto pilot kicked in and I found myself here.

It's my favorite spot from high school. Free parking, short walk to the water and right by the sand volleyball courts. (think Top Gun) The nets were down and the beach was pretty empty. It was perfect for us.

I looked at all the houses right on the beach and wondered where do those people go to escape? Or is their life an escape? Does the beach ever become normal? Then what? I guess I don't have to worry about that since those houses are about 200 times our price range. Ok, maybe just 10-20 times.

The boys and I stayed for 3 hours. We hunted crabs in the rocks, jumped and splashed in the surf, ate sandwiches, grapes, kettle chips, string cheese and lemonade, built a sand castle, chased seagulls, watched the kites. It was a perfect day. Best of all we came home tired, relaxed and ready for bed.
