We leave soon for Hawaii for my brother Ryan's wedding. I am so excited! We have been looking forward to this since January. Actually longer, but that is when they set a date. Anyway, here are the outfits I made for us to wear to the wedding. The wedding ceremony is on the beach and then the reception is right after at a beachfront country club. The invitation called for "aloha wear" so there you go. Everything needs to be hemmed and button holes and buttons sewn on too, but this gives you the idea. I'll probably be sewing buttons on last minute at the rate I'm going. ( =
This has taken a long time to sew it all, but I love that we will match and I outfitted us all for $70-$80. My dress alone would have cost that. (my dress took the most time, I haven't sewn a dress for myself in a long time--high school prom I think) The price even included having the print fabric shipped in from Hawaii and the 21 sea shell buttons I still have to sew on.
Aloha!

Mike's shirt it my favorite. It looks great on him. He rarely wears bright colors and I just really like it on him. It fits great. The pattern didn't call for the front panels, I added those so he would match us and I'm pleased with the result. And no Doug, it does not look like a bowling shirt and I am not adding a oval name label to it. And forget about us joining a league with you!

And yes I even made myself a matching sun hat to wear. It's got a wide brim with wire in it. It's the first hat I've ever made. I really liked the pattern, it's Amy Butler. I wouldn't recommend mixing a cotton-poly shell with cotton lining, but other than that it wasn't that bad. I added the wire because the brim was too floppy and droopy--despite the duck cloth between the fabrics, the wire makes it nice and crisp. (I had to learn what duck cloth is, it's the stuff that makes hats stiff, fortunately they sell it at JoAnn's) Plus the wide wire brim will keep the sun off me. I'm not sure how my eyes or skin will adjust from the Seattle clouds to the Hawaii sunshine.

I'll be sure to post pictures of us wearing them after the trip. I'm hoping for a great family shot in the sand.

I am SO impressed...one time I tried to make Kyle pj shorts, sewed them the wrong way or something and made pj capris/pants...not sure what happened there...they were cut the right length. where did you learn? My mom wishes I sewed more - with 3 kids i can't believe it. I am SOOO excited to see the pictures of you all wearing it!!!
So totally awesome!!
Pretty much speechless from the sewing skills. Can't wait to see the beach pictures!
I love matching clothes and David just endures it for me since he loves me.
It is going to be a blast! Tyler and I are wearing those same colors too! He bought a cream tommy bahama shirt with a teal flower on it and I am wearing a dress that has different shades of teal, blue and brown! We are going to look good together in the family pics! :) 6 days!
