What's wrong with this picture?

Well, I will tell you. Do the stairs look centered to you? They don't line up with the door or the sidewalk leading up to them. The railing is really tall, weird tall and painted white, but not the deck. The deck has been making Mike crazy lately. It's falling apart and all the repairs he does, well the deck is just not worth the trouble. So it's demolition Saturday--Luke's favorite. This is a Saturday of hammers, power tools, lifting, loading the truck and trailer, and then icing on the cake--going to the dump. The new deck should be done before Halloween, just in time for the trick-or-treaters and before the rain really starts to come.
A rotted out step.
The deck is slanted and poorly supported. When you walk on it, it moves. When you jump, it moves more. The pumpkins will have to find a new home until the new deck is all done.

Team work. Aaron brings over the beams, Luke loads them in. Aaron felt like he needed a little extra safety gear today hence the rainboots (under the pants that didn't stay tucked in) bike helmet and backpack.

There were lots of treasures to be found under the old deck--worms (Luke is showing you one in the picture), 4 black widows, several spider nest sacks, an old rusted out Mystery Machine van, Pepsi can, and also the original deck. Instead of tearing it out they just built right over it. Our new deck will be deck #3.

We'll be entering through the garage for a few days, but the new deck will be so great. And of coarse I got to design it, so it will be just how I want it. Mike asked our friend Trevor Bean, a general handyman by trade, to frame it and help him out which makes me feel even better. Trevor does details which are important to me. I am so excited!

These are some of the most darling pics I've seen on your blog. It's so fun to let young kids help out. They feel so important and it's so nice to not have them hanging on you while you're trying to work.
Black Widows! I didn't think there were black widows in Washington.
Yeah, I guess there are. Another reason to get rid of the deck. There was a whole colony of them under there!
Here's a link talking about black widows in Washington.

I would have never noticed had you not said anything. But, I'm sure it would drive me crazy too if I were the homeowner. That's great of you guys to include your boys in the fun!
