Misery Loves Company

Today was our first lake swim of the season. There is a group of us that get together and swim laps across Pine Lake, a small lake in our area. Today there were 6 of us. Regina, our senior swimmer got out early it was too cold. She is 71, and with an air temperature of 52, and water temperature somewhere in the 60's, I don't blame her. It was dang cold. Haze and I swam 1.2 miles which is three laps, and others swam 1 or 2 laps. I still have goose bumps, I hope I warm up soon. ( =

Haze and I are training to do the Fat Salmon in Lake Washington July 19th. There are two races, 1.2 miles and 3.2 miles. After today I think the 1.2 miles will be a better race for me. I've never swam in a race that long and so 3.2 miles seems really long. Maybe next year. If you've ever been to Seattle, the 3.2 mile race is from the 520 bridge to the I-90 bridge. It's pretty far. I'm really looking forward to the race. Haze has a strong competitive swim background and is really good, so it's nice to train with her. I think the only reason I can keep up with her is she just had a baby. Here's the link to the race. http://www.fatsalmonswim.org/ Mom, please don't read the safety disclaimer, I'll be fine. They have boats and kayakers all along the way. Dad, you will want to check out the map, I know you like that sort of stuff. I'm hoping for a time of under 40 minutes. Lake Washington is choppy and who knows what the currents will be like. Can't wait!
