All in the details

When you make a picnic table, or when you buy them, make sure that it has small finger sized holes all over it. If the holes in the table are too big (adult finger sized) then the little ones who like to stick their fingers in random places won't be able to get their fingers stuck in the table.

You see, it's important that their fingers get stuck so that the mom tryng to help get the finger out, gets concerned looks from other people at the park who suspect child abuse. But seriously, what should I have done? Leave him there? Even if it hurts, the finger HAS to come out!

Good thing Grandpa was there. He knew what to do, and acted quickly, and then followed the finger removal with a brisk walk away from the evil table and a big hug.

I remember when my dad used to rescue me as a little girl. He always made everything feel better. I'm so lucky to still have him to rescue and love my boys. And me too on occasion. Thanks Dad.

I keep a tube of lip gloss in my purse and it for more than just lips. Several times my kids have gotten their finger stuck in things like shopping carts and I have applied a good helping of lip gloss to both sides of the stuck finger and vola it slips out.
