Upstream

I'm not sure if it's that I've been sick, or that I totally slacked off with exercise for about a month or what. Swimming is kicking my butt!

We swam 4200 yds this morning. (yeah that's 42 football fields or 2.4 miles) It was killer. We did a Ridley set, whoever Ridley is I'm not sure I could ever be his friend. It's a count down from 15 to 1. As in first swim 15 lengths, then 14, . . . down to 1. The odd numbers (15, 13, 11 . . . ) are freestyle, evens are stroke (back, breast, fly--fly yeah right--10 lengths of fly??) But wait there's more. On the multiples of 4 you do IM (fly, back, breast, free). Anyway, that was just part of the workout. We also did "surf and turf," one of my favorites. You balance on a kick board and pull with your arms down to the other side--great core and arm workout, and then on the way back you use the kickboard for resistance, holding it vertical and kicking.

I couldn't keep up with Haze, but then no one in our lane could. ( = Many jumped out mid set. I actually finished the whole workout, so I feel pretty good about that.

Well, at this rate I should be ready for the Fat Salmon 3.2 miles in mid July. It's in Lake Washington, I-90 bridge to the 520 bridge. Well, unless I drown before then.

Hmmm....I just doggy paddle.:-) I did go splash in the zero-entry pool with Anna's preschool class yesterday. Does that count??

i wish i could still swim like that. i'm impressed :) don't you love the feeling when you are done and even though you are in the water your face is beat red and you're sweating!
