Maintenance

It had been more than 3 years since Mike and I got away for more than 24 hours, just the two of us. During the adoption process with Aaron and Owen we were not permitted to leave them for more than 24 hours--unless we left them with a state employee or state approved person, which was either creepy or a hassle.

Anyway--we left for our 14 year anniversary weekend and it was FABULOUS! It was nice to talk with out worry or interruption, sleep and eat whatever whenever, do whatever and just enjoy each other. Life gets crazy and it was great to just focus on us. The boys were in excellent hands with my cousin (a nanny) and my parents.

We went back to the San Diego Temple in La Jolla where were got married. It was the first time together since we were married there. The temple was under construction, but still so beautiful. We decided the architecture was a cross between a space age Superman style fortress and a Princess's castle--modern meets majestic. Very different from the Newport Beach Temple we usually go to. Most would probably disagree with me, but I like the Newport Beach Temple better, still San Diego is pretty amazing.

I love this picture of us there. The construction on the temple was a nice symbol of our weekend--even the most perfect things need some maintenance and leaky cracks filled.

Another highlight was our bike ride along the coast. The views and houses were so gorgeous we had to stop periodically to just take them in. It was a perfect day with perfect weather.

Somehow I talked Mike into buying a used longboard at a little surf shack. Not sure how I did that, but I'm hoping to get him hooked. Maybe our next getaway will be a surfing adventure.

Happy Anniversary to us! Nice planning Mike. Next year, when it's my turn, I'll have a tough time planning something to top it!
