A few weeks ago Mike and I celebrated our 13th anniversary and left the boys for the day with Grandma and Grandpa. Grandpa took the boys to the park. As they were driving Luke spotted a tarantula on the side of the road. Sceptical, grandpa pulled over. They climbed out and sure enough it was a tarantula. Grandpa got out the nilla wafers box from their earlier snack and laid it down on the ground while they were discussing tarantulas as pets. The tarantula climbed into the box. They closed up the box and went home to make a special "environment " for the tarantula to live in. It was an all day project.
Did you know tarantulas eat crickets?
They are unable climb glass walls.

And they love quiet dark places, perfect for hiding from little boys.

Looks like we have a new pet. We just view the tarantula, no touching since they can bite. But I've read they are not deadly or dangerous. I'm not sure Mike believes that. He's less happy about the latest addition than I am.

I had a pet tarantula in high school. It never bit anyone, but one time my cousin was holding it while standing. Tarantulas have suction on the bottom of their legs and sometimes on our skin, it can feel pinchy. My cousin thought it bit him and he dropped it. The tarantula's abdomen split open and it died :(
Have fun with your new pet. He's a pretty calm non-threatening pet.
